Vendor Notebook: Georgia hospital enhances supply chain with RTLS implementation

TeleTracking announced that Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC), a 530-bed hospital in Savannah, Ga., is managing assets more effectively and at a lower cost since deploying TeleTracking’s RadarFind sensor-network based real-time location system (RTLS). MUMC determined that significant cost savings could be achieved by automating mobile asset location, obtaining clearer visibility of daily operational processes, and reducing ongoing equipment rental fees.The RadarFind system went live in May 2010 and the hospital has reported that total asset management costs have decreased by nearly 40 percent while patient census has slightly increased since 2009.

3M Health Information Systems and IQMax have expanded their strategic agreement to develop new mobile solutions that improve physician workflow, streamline revenue cycle processes, and provide instant access to critical information to support patient care. The agreement will bring increased value to physicians with advanced mobile applications that help them capture more accurate and complete charges, and meet complex documentation requirements under ICD-10. The new 3M branded mobile solutions will be available on mobile device platforms including the iPad, iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows Mobile. The expanded agreement will enable 3M to leverage its core strengths in coding, documentation improvement, and data standardization to create powerful new tools using IQMax’s mobile healthcare platform, an “open” platform that is highly scalable, easily deployed, and enhanced with a full range of security features that fulfill HIPAA and hospital-specific guidelines for encryption and authentication.

McKesson has announced that its Horizon Clinicals software suite has received Complete EHR certification — deeming the software capable of enabling providers to meet the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Tested and certified under the Drummond Group's Electronic Health Records Office of the National Coordinator Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) program, the EHR software is 2011/2012 compliant in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

PACSHealth and Sapheneia have announced the release of their latest product, DoseMonitor. It integrates rapidly to existing PACS and provides cumulative patient dose analysis at the time of order, before additional exposure occurs, exam protocol level analysis, modality specific dose monitoring, customizable outbound excessive dose alerts and notifications. DoseMonitor is vendor agnostic and will function with any DICOM compliant PACS or individual modality.

Midmark Corporation, the maker of integrated digital diagnostic devices for ambulatory care, has announced another completed integration of its new IQvitals and IQvitals PC into GE Centricity EMR. Centricity is the latest industry established solution to integrate these new products. The integration of IQvitals and IQvitals PC into Centricity Enterprise EMR provides users a seamless integration of automated vital signs data directly into the patients’ electronic chart. This helps the clinical workflow become more efficient and eliminates the chance of data transcription errors.

Novarad and Medical Billing & Management Services have formed an exclusive partnership to package Novarad’s NovaRIS web-based patient scheduling, tracking, reporting system and billing output together with MBMS’s billing technology and service. The integration between MBMS and NovaRIS allows for seamless, automated billing. Included in the automated billing system is the Discover reporting tool that provides a real-time view into the practice’s productivity, accounts receivable and collections, denials, cash flow and other practice management and financial metrics.

Technology Medical Partners has announced that it has been awarded a Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery grant from the Federal government. The $113,000 grant was awarded as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, which was passed by Congress to provide an immediate $1 billion boost to U.S. biomedical research and the small businesses conducting the research. Only companies with less than 250 employees were eligible for the tax credits or grants. TMP’s Clinical Quality Manager (CQM) provides real-time quality of care information allowing real-time actions and improvements to patient outcomes for caregivers.

IMS MAXIMS has announced that clinicians can update patient records at the bedside, or be instantly alerted to changes in their condition from the other side of the country, its new and highly-configurable iPad and iPhone app, which provides access to patient records for staff on the move. Called MAXIMS Bedside, the first version was unveiled within a week of the UK launch of the iPad. The app was developed to assist healthcare professionals who do not always have immediate access to a PC. Being able to review test results, diagnoses and medical histories while they are with the patient helps improve care and saves time. Likewise, being able to monitor any change in a patient’s condition remotely allows for a swift and effective response if their condition changes.
