PillPack launches Amazon Pharmacy branding

The branding has changed from "PillPack, an Amazon company" to "PillPack by Amazon Pharmacy."

Amazon has rebranded its mail-order pharmacy PillPack to reflect the change to Amazon Pharmacy.

The branding has changed from "PillPack, an Amazon company" to "PillPack by Amazon Pharmacy."

The logo on the PillPack website reflects the update. Customers will begin to see labels and printed materials that may include references to "Amazon Pharmacy" in their shipments, a PillPack spokesperson said.

The spokesperson confirmed that the company recently filed paperwork that adds "Amazon Pharmacy" to the licensed name of each of its pharmacy fulfillment centers located in Manchester, New Hampshire, Phoenix, Arizona, Miami,,Florida, Austin, Texas and Brooklyn, New York. 

"There are no service changes for either existing or new customers. PillPack remains the name of our brand and service," the spokesperson said. 


When Amazon bought PillPack for about $1 billion last year, the e-commerce giant became a major competitor in the multi-billion dollar pharmacy business.

At the time, the company said that Amazon's aim in the acquiistion was "to help continue making it easy for pharmacy customers to save time, simplify their lives, and feel healthier."

The spokesperon said, "In the year since, PillPack has done just that and we all remain delighted that PillPack's customer-centric mission aligns perfectly with the mission of Amazon."

PillPack is designed for people who take multiple daily prescriptions, delivering them in pre-sorted dose packaging. It coordinates refills and renewals.

It is in-network with all major pharmacy benefit managers, including CVS Caremark, Express Scripts, Optum Rx, Prime Therapeutics, Humana Pharmacy Solutions, Cigna, Aetna, MedImpact, EnvisionRx and CastiaRX.


Amazon's PillPack is just one move by the company into the healthcare space.

Last year, it partnered with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase on the creation of the not-for-profit and independent healthcare company Haven, to initiate a new model to lower costs and improve care for its one million-plus employees and potentially beyond.
