The American Hospital Association and the American Organization of Nurse Executives have announced they are jointly searching for an executive to fill the positions of chief nursing officer and senior vice president at AHA and CEO at AONE.

The CEO/CNO's work will focus on advancing the work of the AONE strategic plan and furthering the mission and vision of the AONE, officials said, as well as representing and leading nursing issues for the AHA and aligning the AONE Foundation with the strategic direction of the AONE.

"We're looking for a strategic and visionary nursing executive to promote the professional development of nurse leaders, clinical research and the advancement of nursing leadership practice," said Bob Dent, RN, president of the AONE board of directors.

Kirby Bates Associates, a healthcare and life sciences search firm, has been selected to lead the search.

"We are seeking nursing executives with exceptional leadership and business skills, combined with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and experience working in professional organizations," explained Karen K. Kirby, RN, president and CEO of Kirby Bates Associates.

The dual CEO/CNO role has a unique opportunity to impact nursing leadership practice on a national scale, said Mary Beth Kingston, RN, president-elect of the AONE board of directors. "As former CNOs and COOs, the Kirby Bates team provides deep industry insights and is well positioned to identify top candidates."
