Passport Named Technology Company of the Year

The Nashville Technology Council has named Passport Health Communications, Inc. Technology Company of the Year for 2012. The award recognizes Passport as top among Middle Tennessee’s most innovative technology companies and was presented Oct. 23 at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center during the Tech Council’s annual Technology Awards Gala.

“This recognition is a shining moment for our entire company and especially the employees of Passport. The Nashville Technology Council is a forum and outlet for the many innovative technology companies in the Nashville area to strengthen our position as a tech market, and a way for us to complement Nashville’s dominant position as the U.S. Healthcare Capitol. We are honored to be recognized for our leadership in both areas. We have achieved notable innovation during the past several years and have tremendous momentum that will allow us to deliver even more in the future,” said Passport CEO Scott MacKenzie.

The Nashville Technology Council award is the latest in a string of accolades for Passport. The company has been ranked on the Inc. 5000 list of America's Fastest-Growing Private Companies for six years in a row, as well as the Healthcare Informatics 100 and the Nashville Business Journal 25 Fastest-Growing Companies. In 2011 Passport became the first revenue cycle management solutions company to achieve Health Information Exchange Accreditation from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, which recognizes excellence in health data processing and transactions, and ensures compliance with industry-established standards and HIPAA regulations.

“This year, the NTC received a record number of nominations for our annual Tech Awards. This increase demonstrates the vibrancy and growth of our region’s tech community. Being named Technology Company of the Year is a significant achievement and underscores Passport’s leadership in the tech and healthcare industries,” said Liza Lowery Massey, President/CEO of Nashville Technology Council.

Passport was founded in 1996 and has grown by developing innovative, web-based products and services that offer many benefits to healthcare providers, including time savings, reduced operating expenses, increased employee productivity, and assurance that the provider will be paid for a service – even before the service is provided.

It was the first company in the U.S. to develop and offer a complete, fully-integrated suite of solutions and services for Patient Access and Payment Certainty, Passport eCare™ NEXT.

In 2011 Passport also became the first U.S. company to offer software for automating the insurance pre-certification process, and earlier this year added enterprise scheduling and physician ordering to its suite of Patient Access and Payment Certainty solutions. With payers increasingly using pre-certification to manage costs, Passport’s OrderRite™ solution eliminates as much as 80 percent of the labor associated with a once very manual, time-consuming process. The Passport Scheduling Suite also generates a substantial return on investment by allowing hospitals and health systems to manage all scheduled events through a single web-based system instead of scheduling patients in different IT systems often segmented by department. Passport’s OrderSmart™ is a web-based, electronic order system that connects physician offices directly to hospitals, clinics, labs and other ancillary healthcare operations.

Passport’s newest solutions focus on Care Management and helping hospitals and health systems manage a patient’s entire episode of care – from initial diagnosis through full recovery – with an emphasis on upfront discharge planning, improving patient wait times, and reducing readmissions.

Passport is headquartered in the Nashville area and operates five regional offices in Atlanta, Ga., Hazlet, N.J., King of Prussia, Pa., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. and Springfield, Ill. Its software and services are delivered to more than 2,300 U.S. hospitals – approximately one in three of all U.S. hospitals – and more than 8,600 other healthcare facilities in all 50 states. The company employs more than 360 people.
