MedAssets and Excel Rx GSO develop pharmacy solutions for non-acute providers

July 15, 2010 | Industry News Release
Source: Healthcare Finance News

ATLANTA – MedAssets has continued expanding its group purchasing organization’s pharmacy program to meet the needs of non-acute healthcare providers, such as long-term care organizations, home healthcare service providers, specialty pharmacies, as well as other closed-door pharmacies.

Working with its affiliate partner Excel Rx GSO, MedAssets’ pharmacy program has helped gain new customers, including Discover Rx, an affiliate of Saint Barnabas Health Care System serving the long-term care market.

MedAssets’ pharmacy program connects non-acute healthcare providers with an expanding roster of suppliers and distributors offering pharmaceutical products and services specific to the alternate care market. In addition to helping non-acute healthcare providers achieve significant cost reduction through this program, MedAssets’ pharmacy solutions enable providers and their pharmacies to address changing patient case mixes, reduced reimbursement and a need for efficiency in the supply chain.

“MedAssets’ goals include facilitating financial improvement in all healthcare organizations, acute and non-acute,” said Rand Ballard, Chief Customer Officer and Chief Operating Officer, MedAssets. “The success of our pharmacy program with new customers exemplifies how we leverage supplier relationships and our collective experience in pharmacy operations to reach those goals.”

“Discover Rx’s selection of Excel Rx GSO and MedAssets as their partner is a testament not only to the solutions we offer for non-acute healthcare providers but equally as important the ongoing personal service we provide,” said Rocky Whitehead, President, Excel Rx GSO. “We are extremely pleased to be working with non-acute healthcare leaders in their industry and look forward to assisting them as they continue to grow and serve their patients in long-term care.”
