ROCKVILLE, MD – Adventist HealthCare, a non-profit network of healthcare providers in Rockville, Md., has locked in more than $1.25 million in electricity savings by purchasing power through an online auction process.
The organization participated in an online auction in January over the World Energy Exchange, operated by World Energy Solutions, Inc., an operator of online exchanges for energy and green commodities.
Adventist HealthCare secured electricity contracts from 2011 through mid-2013 which include 10 percent green energy. William G. Robertson, the network's president and CEO, said the organization would reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 4,100 metric tons each year.
“The money we have saved will help us invest in long-term energy efficiency initiatives,” said Robertson.
World Energy helped Adventist identify better ways to manage its energy portfolio, from understanding hidden costs in current contracts to the advantages of proactively shopping the market to meet post-2010 demand.
Phil Adams, president of World Energy, said the company pulled together Adventist HealthCare’s multiple electricity contracts and terms into a “single, structured procurement event” that attracted the regions’ top suppliers, spurred aggressive bidding and yielded transparent pricing.
