ST. LOUIS, MO – BJC HealthCare, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare organizations in the United States, intends to automate and standardize its charge description master and pricing.

The 13-hospital health system has selected chargemaster management and pricing management solutions from Atlanta-based MedAssets. The St. Louis-based health system wants to bring all of its facilities together on a corporate chargemaster.

Kevin Roberts, BJC's senior vice president and chief financial officer, said the new system will use Web-based workflow automation and reporting capabilities to help his team better understand the net impact of pricing and rate changes and increase revenue capture opportunities.

"With 13 hospitals and multiple community health locations, it is important for us to focus on ensuring that revenue integrity is consistent across our organization," said Roberts. "Our goal is to increase charge standardization and billing compliance at all of our facilities."

BJC HealthCare delivers services primarily in the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and mid-Missouri regions. The health system reported net revenue of $3.4 billion in 2009.
