ATLANTA – A well-known provider of healthcare connectivity solutions has signed on to help Colorado’s Parkview Medical Center connect its revenue cycle management team with the latest technology.

RelayHealth, the connectivity subsidiary of Atlanta-based healthcare giant McKesson, announced Tuesday that its RevRunner revenue cycle management solution is being used by the Pueblo, Colo.-based, 350-bed hospital to improve up-front patient estimate calculation and collections and clean up the back-end accounts receivable operations.

“We wanted to maintain our current resource levels, but be able to free up resources for increased pre-registration activity,” said John Severa, in charge of strategic planning and technical support of revenue cycle operations for Parkview. “We chose an integrated solution that will automate the financial clearance process.”

Officials say RevRunner will help staff at the 87-year-old nonprofit hospital better estimate a patient’s financial responsibility prior to the medical visit, allowing the hospital and the patient to work together to determine how the bill will be paid and whether financial assistance is needed.

“As the self-pay portion of healthcare collections increases, health systems such as Parkview Medical Center are increasingly turning to proven revenue cycle solutions,” added Jim Bodenbender, president of RelayHealth Connectivity Solutions. “RelayHealth RevRunner and related solutions help hospitals nationwide optimize their revenue cycle in relation to financial clearance and settlement.”

The Parkview contract continues a recent spate of business in the Rocky Mountain state. Last April Catholic Health Initiatives, a Denver-based nonprofit with 72 hospitals in 18 states, selected RevRunner to verify patient eligibility for healthcare benefits.

“The advanced financial clearance and revenue-cycle management tools provided by RelayHealth can help hospitals recover revenues that may have previously gone unbilled or uncollected,” Bodenbender said at the time. “An effective suite of revenue cycle solutions is important not only to CHI's stewardship of their organizations’ funds in pursuit of their mission, it also helps improve the overall patient experience.”
